Why guessing feels worse
Guessing feels worse because the puzzle already has one solution. A guess is a mark you cannot defend. If it happens to be right, you skipped the reason. If it is wrong, the rest of the board lies to you.
Sitting with a stuck cell is slower, and it is the actual game. You scan again. You mark a note. You find the line that has only one legal place.
Hints exist if you want a next step explained. They are not a guess for you. They show a deduction that is already forced.
You do not need to guess on Beginner. You do not need to guess on the harder bands either. The reasoning is longer. The path is still one path. The how-tos for Sudoku, Star Battle, and Binary Puzzle name the first scans.
